David Lucio is still trying to come to terms with the sudden and tragic loss of his friend Carl Colangelo.

 

“It’s hard to believe that he’s not here,” Lucio said. “We’re all going to miss him.”

 

Colangelo died in a head-on crash while on a work trip in Bastrop, Texas, according to authorities. He was 66 years old.

 

Lucio told 12 News he and Colangelo have been friends for decades.

 

“I don’t think I ever saw Carl frown,” he said. “He was always smiling, and he would make you smile one way or another.”

 

Lucio and Colangelo both spent more than 30 years together on the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament Committee, which is responsible for organizing the city’s annual Portuguese celebration.
