Cybersecurity breach disrupts Stop & Shop's online services

Category: Local Sports

Stop & Shop’s website and apps are offline as its parent company grapples with a cybersecurity breach.

Ahold Delhaize confirmed in a statement Monday that it’s experiencing “a security issue within its network.”

“Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue,” Ahold Delhaize explained. “This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them.”

“Protecting our infrastructure in the best interest of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority,” the statement continued. “We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused customers and partners.”

Stop & Shop’s website and app were “unavailable” Monday night, with maintenance messages alerting customers that stores, pharmacies and gas stations are operating as normal.

“We are working to restore service as quickly as possible,” the maintenance message reads.

The maintenance message also states that any unfulfilled online orders will be refunded.

Hannaford and Giant Food, which are also both owned by Ahold Delhaize, have been impacted by the cybersecurity breach as well.

The extent of the cybersecurity breach remains unknown at this time.
