Acushnet police are investigating the cause of a crash that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday night.

 

Town officials said the motorcycle and a vehicle collided at the intersection of South Main and Jean streets.

 

Police were called to the scene around 9:15 p.m. and arrived to find the rider, a 21-year-old man, unresponsive on the ground.

 

First responders stabilized the man before taking him to the trauma center at St. Luke’s Hospital, after which he was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital, according to officials. The motorcyclist’s name was not released, and his current condition is unknown.

 

Officials said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was taken to St. Luke’s for evaluation.

 

South Main Street was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation.
