The MIAA is adding a Super Eight football tournament in 2027. 

The board approved the new postseason format in a 12-to-two vote on Wednesday. 

The top eight Division One and Two teams will compete in a single-elimination tournament without opt-outs.  Only eight teams from each remaining division will qualify, reducing the overall playoff field from 128 to 72. 

The shorter postseason will allow a ninth regular-season game while preserving Thanksgiving rivalries.
