Fall River voters who requested absentee or vote-by-mail ballots for the Sept. 1 state primary should begin receiving ballot packages after the city started mailing them Aug. 4, according to a community announcement.

 

The City of Fall River said voters should review the instructions included with their ballot package before marking a ballot. State law also requires voters to sign the affidavit on the ballot envelope before returning it. Ballots returned without a signed affidavit will be rejected.

 

Mail ballots may be returned through the postage-paid envelope included with the ballot package, at the ballot drop box outside the Third Street entrance of One Government Center or in person at the Elections Department in Office #636.

 

Voters who choose to return a ballot by mail or drop box must ensure it reaches the Elections Department by 8 p.m. Sept. 1, which is Election Day for the state primary.

 

Residents who still need to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot have until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 to submit an application. Applications are available through the Elections Department at 508-324-2630 or through the Massachusetts secretary of state's website at sec.state.ma.us.
