A Fall River Police Department K-9 officer who has been on leave since 2024 is set to avoid a verdict for weapons and domestic violence charges after reaching a plea deal.

 

In the agreement made on July 28, prosecutors recommended that 34-year-old Marc Correia remain on pretrial probation until Sept. 1.

 

Completing pretrial probation allows defendants to resolve criminal cases without having to plead guilty or not guilty.

 

Correia faced one charge of improperly storing a firearm and one charge of assault and battery on a household member. Both were misdemeanors after the weapons charge was amended from a felony. A third felony charge of witness intimidation had been dismissed in March 2026.

 

Correia remains on administrative leave from the Fall River Police Department, according to Deputy Chief of Police Barden Castro.

 

“Now that the criminal case has concluded, the Fall River Police Department's Office of Professional Standards will complete its internal administrative investigation to determine whether any departmental rules, regulations, policies, or procedures were violated. This administrative review is independent of, and separate from, the criminal proceedings,” Castro wrote in an email to The Herald News.
