A new report is giving Massachusetts infrastructure a near-failing D-plus grade. 

The Boston Society of Civil Engineers says aging systems and deferred maintenance are leaving the state vulnerable to extreme weather. 

The report examined seven categories, with transit receiving the highest grade of C and the others earning grades in the D range. 

Annual bridge repairs require about one-billion dollars, while the MBTA repair backlog totals over 24-billion dollars.  Engineers are calling for sustained investments to repair and modernize infrastructure for increasingly severe weather.
