One person is dead after being hit by a train at the MBTA station in Attleboro on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

 

Attleboro Fire officials said they responded to the South Main Street train station around 2:50 p.m. where they found an individual who was struck on the inbound side.

 

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The area was blocked off and all tracks were shut down.

 

The victim’s name has not yet been released and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as Amtrack, Transit and Attleboro police continue their investigation.

 

In a 3:22 p.m. post on X, the MBTA said all Providence Line trains would hold until further notice at South Station due to “police activity on the right of way in the Attleboro area.” Commuter rail passengers were told to expect significant delays in both directions.
