Republicans are gaining ground across southeastern Massachusetts.  In 2024, President Trump made some of his strongest statewide gains in Bristol and Plymouth counties. 

Now, candidate for governor Brian Shortsleeve and running mate Shawn Oliver are hoping to capitalize on those gains in the upcoming primary elections. The area also has its first Republican candidate for Bristol County district attorney in more than 50 years. 

Party leaders say economic frustration and dissatisfaction with Beacon Hill are creating new opportunities for the GOP.
