Police are searching for a suspect after two people were shot Sunday night in Newport.

 

Officers were called to the Park Holm housing complex off Truman Road around 10 p.m.

 

The victims, ages 22 and 25, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

 

No arrests have been made, but police said the shooting was targeted and there is no threat to the public.

 

While investigating at the scene Monday morning, police discovered that a stray bullet went through the window of a nearby home.

 

“My couch is literally on the other side of this window,” Sheila Rivera said while showing 12 News the sizeable bullet hole.

 

“We didn’t know that anything happened to the house until the police came back this morning, and then there were tons of police in the house,” she added.

 

Rivera told 12 News that no one in her home was hurt, but as a mother, she couldn’t help but think what could’ve happened.

 

“I have two older kids. One of my kids couldn’t come home last night because of everything that happened, and then my two girls, 8 and 10, we were asleep on the couch,” Rivera said.

 

“I’m ready to move,” she added. “I mean, I’m thankful that we’re not like harmed physically, but it’s still scary mentally. It’s exhausting, like even having to think about that … literally my kids were right here.”
