Review of controversial Fall River search warrant investigation suggests police improvements

In a somewhat rare showing of unity, Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan, the city council and police department have released a joint statement after a comprehensive review of a controversial search warrant.

“I think the city’s tired of seeing the divide,” said J.T. Hoar, Fall River’s acting police chief.

In the joint statement, Coogan, Hoar and Fall River City Council President Cliff Ponte said the city determined in the review that, while improvements to police policy are needed, there’s no need for disciplinary action.

Hoar took over as acting police chief less than a week ago after former police chief Kelly Furtado announced her retirement.
