Charter objection by Fall River city councilor stalls mayor's agenda

City Councilor Shawn Cadime made a Charter Objection to nearly every item on the agenda of the City Council meeting on April 14, halting discussion and forcing the City Council to bypass items that have delayed funding, park improvements, and demolition projects across the city.

Cadime's actions postponed for at least two weeks the acceptance of a comfort dog for EMS, issuing $4.5 million in Community Preservation grants, issuing $5.7 million in surplus funding for departments including police and fire, and demolition of the old Bedford Street police station.

Cadime said his objecting is living up to promises made by City Council President Cliff Ponte at a March 27 press conference. Ponte disagreed with Coogan’s decision to allow a warrant to stand that allowed the Fall River Police Department to determine the identity of an anonymous alleged leaker posting on Facebook.
