Two workers were taken to the hospital Friday after they were injured at a construction site in New Bedford.

Massachusetts State Police said the incident happened just after 12:30 p.m. in the area of Coggeshall Street and Route 18 South.

According to MassDOT, the subcontractors were hurt when “a rebar cage for a column within the I-195 to Route 18 interchange rehabilitation project collapsed.”

The two workers were brought to St. Luke’s Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, state police said.
