Born and raised in Fall River, Mary is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and Campbell’s Business School. Right out of that same business school, Mary signed on as secretary to the Owner of the original WALE located in downtown Fall River. Due to the departure of the then Traffic Manager, Mary was able to move into the position. It was also the place where she met her future husband, Bob.
After about 4 years of being at WALE, the station (WSAR) across the river in Somerset…where Mary and husband Bob had moved…was purchased by a company in Boston and had changed its format. After the change, a number of the WSAR employees left including the Traffic Manager. Mary received a phone call to come and work at WSAR. And, as they say, “THE REST IS HISTORY.”
Mary worked for WSAR owners Knight Quality Stations right up until brothers, Bob and Jim Karam, purchased the radio station. Bob and Jim also owned the original WALE, now known as WHTB, and moved it into the same building in Somerset.
Mary does traffic and a host of other duties for both Radio stations and is proud to be a part of these two very popular locally owned entities.
The job has changed over the years from manual typewriters to computers and automation systems, but Mary’s love for the industry has never waned.
