Gasoline This Week According To Triple A

GAS PRICES DOWN THREE CENTS, SAYS AAA

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down three cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s December 17 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.59 per gallon. The Massachusetts price is twenty-two cents higher than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.37.

A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 13 cents lower at $2.46.

“The national average is a nickel less than last week, twenty-six cents less than last month and six cents less than a year ago,” said Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs. “With gasoline production on the high side – 10 million barrels per day – amid low seasonal demand, motorists can expect gas prices to continue declining through year-end.”

AAA expects 102 million Americans to drive to their holiday destination this year, which is a four percent increase year-over-year. There is little doubt cheaper gas prices are at least one of the reasons that we are seeing more people hit the road this holiday season.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 66 cents, from a low of $2.39 to a high of $3.05.
