WSAR has learned that a smoke free policy will go in force on the first day of November for all units of public housing under the auspices of the FRHA in compliance with federal regulations.
The policy was adopted by the FRHA executive board in august.
Those living in the dwelling along with guests, visitors and employees will not be able to smoke cigars, cigarettes, pipes or marijuana in their housing units once the policy goes into effect.
Interior common areas, including elevators, bathrooms, stairwells, lobbies, laundry rooms and other areas will also be smoke free.
Smoking will also be prohibited outdoors within 25 feet of FRHA property so as to prohibit second hand smoke from entering buildings through open windows.
A four strike policy will have two written notices of violation, a private conference as a third provision, with a fourth offense involving FRHA legal counsel.
A document that tenants are to sign by September 29 is part of a four page release obtained by WSAR
