Former New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez had was his Defense Attorneys claim was an advanced case of CTE, after an examination of his brain following his suicide in his jail cell.

As a result, the Hernandez Defense Team has filed a Federal suit versus the Patriots Franchise, and the NFL, on behalf of Hernandez's daughter.

The CTE issues resulted in a billion dollar settlement being reached with a group of former players who maintain they were not aware of the risks that repeated concussions carried during their playing careers.
